direct neurofeedback

Direct Neurofeedback is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses an extremely low-level electromagnetic signal to support the brain’s natural ability to regulate itself. Many people report an increased sense of calm, improved focus, and overall well-being.

This approach has been associated with improvements in symptoms related to anxiety, depression, PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and ADD/ADHD, as well as enhanced resilience and peak performance for individuals who are already healthy.

Direct Neurofeedback (DNF)

Direct Neurofeedback (DNF) is a gentle, brain-based approach that helps the nervous system reorganize and find balance. During a session, small sensors placed on the scalp monitor brain activity in real time. The brain receives subtle, non-invasive signals that create brief shifts in neural patterns, helping interrupt rigid or “stuck” activity and supporting more flexible, regulated functioning.

Many clients describe the experience as similar to rebooting a frozen computer, the brain adjusts on its own, forming healthier patterns without any conscious effort or training.

Who Can Benefit

DNF can be helpful for children and adults whose nervous systems may be over-activated, under-activated, or caught in persistent stress patterns. People often notice improvements in emotional regulation, focus, sleep, and overall resilience. It can also support therapy by helping clients feel calmer and more able to engage in the therapeutic process.

Typical areas where DNF may complement therapy include:

  • Anxiety, panic, and stress

  • Emotional regulation challenges

  • Trauma-related nervous system dysregulation

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Chronic tension or hyperarousal

  • Attention or focus difficulties

  • Patterns of reactivity or feeling “stuck”

What to Expect

A DNF session typically lasts 50 minutes. Sensors are placed on the scalp, and the client simply relaxes while the brain receives continuous, gentle feedback. No talking about past events, homework, or conscious effort is required during the treatment. DNF is always offered as part of a broader therapeutic plan. When used alongside psychotherapy, it can help the nervous system settle, making it easier for clients to access insights, process emotions, and integrate therapeutic work, while also promoting neuroplasticity, allowing the brain to form new, healthier patterns
